Did you know that "Ode to Joy" is an ode written in 1785 by the German poet, Friedrich Schiller, celebrating the brotherhood and unity of all mankind?
It is best known for its musical setting by Beethoven in the final movement of his Ninth Symphony.
It was adopted as the Anthem of Europe by the Council of Europe in 1972, the European Community in 1993 and the European Union in 1985.
